For students, researchers and the general public, the database is nothing less than a window into the social and cultural life of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Libris is growing, and currently contains almost half a million citations, with annotations (and for Maclean's Magazine, comprehensive abstracts).
The separate indexes which comprise the Libris database represent thousands of hours of work on the part of a small group of skilled indexers, including Gordon Adshead, Grace Heggie and Anne McGaughey. The Maclean's and Monetary Times projects were co-ordinated by Vivienne Monty of York University, with grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Members of the original Libris Advisory Group were: Gordon Adshead, Anita Cannon (Mount Allison University), Anne McGaughey, Vivienne Monty (York University), Gord Ripley (Reference Press) and Brent Roe (Laurentian University). The database is published by Reference Press.
