As of May 31, 2023, Eldonna DeWeese retired as editor of the SBPI. She concluded this work, which began in 1987 when the index was restarted after the Historical Commission could no longer continue the project. Since a replacement editor has not been found, entries past 2021 will cease. Taffey Hall, Director of the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives, with the cooperation of Reference Press, will make it possible for the entire online coverage 1984--2021 to remain available to researchers.

January 2018You may notice that the Southern Baptist Periodical Index has a new look. This is one result of a general re-writing of the computer code used by the search engine. The aim has been to bring SBPI closer to modern standards of accessibility and ease-of-use. We hope you like it.
