Compiled, indexed and edited by Roger Carswell
The Kansas Periodical Index was published annually as a print volume covering publication years 1984 through 2011. It was created by Roger Carswell in 1984 and sold, largely to Kansas libraries, during that period. In 2012 the Kansas Periodical Index moved online and is hosted by Reference Press. Carswell continues as the indexer/compiler. An open subscription to the Kansas Periodical Index is provided by the State Library of Kansas.
Roger Carswell lives in Iola, Kansas and is Director of the Southeast Kansas Library System and of Iola Public Library, positions he has held since 1992. The Kansas Periodical Index, however, is a personal project done on his own time.
Currently, the Kansas Periodical Index online includes coverage for the years 2002 through 2018. Some years prior to 2002 are also indexed for Kansas History. Plans are to eventually add retrospective coverage (pre-2002) for selected titles of historical interest, such as Kansas History, Kansas Historical Quarterly, and Kansas!
