'Jonn ripplaye a vagrant and a wandring begger of a lowe stature brown headed and some what bleare eyed aged a bout fiftye years was this xiiij th day of Aprytt in the xviij yeare of the reaigne of our soueraigne lord kynge James of england openlye whipped at Stokeslay in the said north riddinge for a wandringe begger and misdeymea[n]inge him self in his wandringe accordinge to the lawe.'
