William Ripley, Wramplingham (Norfolk)

"William Ripley with his wife, two sons and two daughters, came from Hingham, Norfolk County, England, and settled at Hingham, Mass. He married a second wife, Elizabeth, widow of homas Thaxter. Sept. 29, 1654, and died July 20, 1G56. His widow married John Dwight, of Dedham, Jan. 20, 1058, and died July 17, 1660. In his will, which is dated June 30, 1660, he mentions only his sons. He was admitted a Freeman May 18, 1642. His town lot which he drew in 1638, contained four acres, and is on the main street Lower Plain, or Hingham Centre. The house of one of his descendants, Ebed Ripley, now stands upon it. We find that Hingham was simply the point of his departure from England. The records of the Parish Church at Hingham have been "carefully examined from 1600, when they commence, to 1638, and the name Ripley does not once occur, nor is any one of the name known in Hingham, or its vicinity."' The company of emigrants appears to have been made up at Hingham, and William Ripley must have come from some other place and joined it. We have not been able to discover the place of his residence in England.
