This one-name study is a systematic collection of information about people with the English surname Ripley (Ripelie, Ripleye, Riply, Ripple, Repply, etc.) up to and including the year 1900 ... derived from civil registration records, parish registers, censuses, wills, monumental inscriptions, genealogies, newspapers, emigration records and other sources.

Scope

Most of the listings here are pre-1601, as this was the original scope of the database. As for the many expatriate families stemming from emigration to the United States, Austrialia and Canada (in particular), these may be considered at at later date. For now, research is limited to the British Isles.

Although I have taken care in compiling these lists, errors are always possible, even likely. Please check the footnotes and verify the information yourself before accepting it as valid. In making use of this data, be wary of drawing conclusions. By my estimate, the persons listed here comprise only a small fraction of those bearing the surname Ripley before 1600. Extrapolating cannot be done reliably at present, and should not be attempted.
